Roma still working for Smalling, El Shaarawy on standby

RomaPress – Roma’s market will be “make or break” until the final minutes of the transfer window.

The Giallorossi have just under six hours to complete their last two pieces of business: a permanent deal for Chris Smalling and the loan arrival of Stephan El Shaarawy.

There is still work to be done for the English defender as the Red Devils have still yet to accept Roma’s €15 million offer. The 30 year-old is growing restless and has reiterated to the English side that he only wants to join the Giallorossi. However, the signals coming from intermediary Jozo Palac haven’t been positive.

Meanwhile, Stephan El Shaarawy is waiting on standby. Roma can close the deal for the Shanghai Shenhua attacker very quickly but it is all contingent upon Diego Perotti’s move to Fenerbahçe being completed.

There have been contractual issues between the sides and sources from both Perotti’s entourage and Turkey suggest that the deal may fall through, which would prevent El Shaarawy’s arrival.
