Roma suggest for Smalling to undergo surgery

Andy Mattioli

Roma are hoping to convince Chris Smalling to undergo surgery on his injured knee.

The Englishman has been out for over three months with what appears to be a chronic issue with the cartilage in his knee.

According to Corriere della Sera, traditional methods of physiotherapy have failed to resolve the problem and now Roma have recommended to the defender the option of undergoing surgery with the hope of permanently fixing the injured knee.

Smalling, however, seems reluctant to commit to surgery at the of 34. The player so far has rejected this idea.

This, in turn, may result in his return to the pitch being postponed until February.
