Roma are hours away from facing Cremonese in the Coppa Italia Round of 16.
The Giallorossi are set to seek a rematch following last year’s deflating defeat to Cremonese in the quarterfinals; once again, Roma dropped out of the national cup competition as they had done in the past.
Today’s edition of Corriere della Sera highlights the fact that Roma are the only top club in Italy to not feature in a single Coppa Italia final for the past 10 years – since the infamous 2013 loss to Lazio.
Over the years, Roma suffered three eliminations in the round of 16, 5 in the quarter-finals and 2 in the semi-finals (with Napoli in 2014 and Lazio in 2017). Roma lost their last 2 finals in 2010 against Inter (1-0 by Milito at the Olimpico) and in 2013 against Lazio (1-0 by Lulic).
After that fateful May 26th, only many bad memories. Like the 7-1 defeat in Florence in 2019, the terrible match-up at the Olimpico with Spezia (in 2015 on penalties and in 2021 on extra time, a 4-2 which then became a forfeit 3-0 because Roma had made one too many substitutions) and last year by Cremonese, who won 2-1 in the quarterfinals.
