Roma to pursue Sassuolo’s Davide Frattesi and Lyon’s Houssem Aouar in January

Roma are looking to further reinforce their midfield in the upcoming January window as the capital club have struggled with injuries in the start of the new season. The World Cup break will serve as an opportunity for GM Tiago Pinto to initiate contact with several agents across Europe and engage in talks to potentially strengthen Mourinho’s roster.

According to calciomercato.com, the primary names for the Giallorossi’s midfield are Sassuolo’s Davide Frattesi and Lyon’s Houssem Aouar – both previously linked with Roma in the summer.

The Italian sports outlet reports that Lyon are willing to let Aouar leave in January for a small fee as his contract expires in June of next year. Aouar’s limited playing time thus far will likely motivate him to push for an early exit from the Ligue 1 club. His demands, however, are deemed excessive: €4.5 million plus add-ons, which most clubs seem reluctant to offer him.

In the meantime, Davide Frattesi – on a hot streak with Sassuolo – could also push for his long-awaited return to the Italian capital. The Neroverdi, however, will try to keep him and may only consider proposals involving the likes of Volpato and Bove as counter-parts in a deal.
