After originally arriving in January, former Serie A referee Gianpaolo Calvarese will continue in his role this season as Roma’s refereeing consultant.
The 46 year-old joined the Giallorossi during the middle of last season just a few months after he ended his decade long spell as a referee in Italy’s top flight.
Roma added Calvarese to provide real-time interpretation and analysis of refereeing decisions to the coaching staff after the club were plagued by errors from officials and VAR last season.
According to Il Tempo, Giallorossi boss Jose Mourinho was incredibly happy with Calvarese’s work and requested that the club renew his deal for the upcoming 2022/23 season.
As a result, the parties will meet in the coming days to formalise the agreement. The capital club were originally going to hand him a three-year contract but it’s more likely both sides will evaluate the situation season by season.
