Roma are trying to get rid of some of the most expensive players on the roster.
The capital club’s priority for this summer is to restructure the squad at Daniele De Rossi’s disposal and alleviate the wage bill.
As a result, the Giallorossi have compiled an extensive list of names of players who are supposed to be sold in the coming weeks.
Among them is Chris Smalling.
The veteran defender is longer wanted at Trigoria.
His salary, reports Corriere dello Sport, is a major problem for the Giallorossi given Smalling’s scarce output over the last year due to his inconsistent fitness levels.
Smalling was for the most part unavailable this past season and Roma would rather focus on other players instead.
As a result, the newspaper reports that Roma have instructed intermediaries to offer Smalling to clubs in the Saudi Pro Leaugue.
However, selling the 34-year-old will be more complicated than expected.
For now, no club has made a reasonable bid yet.
