After failing to reach an agreement for Granit Xhaka, Roma turn their attention to other options in order to reinforce the midfield.

The 23-year-old captain of AZ Alkmaar has been linked to a number of clubs including Atalanta, Napoli and Mourinho’s team.
The Dutch international wants to play on a bigger stage and Roma have been in talks with his entourage for a while now, with the player admitting a couple of weeks ago that he was in conversation with several teams, looking to play outside of the Eredivisie.

With the campaign starting in three weeks’ time, Roma will now accelerate the negotiations for a new midfielder.
