Romelu Lukaku is reportedly drifting steadily away from securing a long-term stay in the Italian capital.

The Belgian striker continues to serve his loan at Roma from Chelsea with the hope of finding a permanent home in the Eternal City.

However, the matter has gotten more complicated than the club initially expected.

At this rate, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Roma are unlikely to meet the conditions to extend Lukaku’s stay beyond this season.

The Giallorossi are in fact way off the track that would lead them to a Champions League qualification and therefore guarantee the necessary financial revenue to fund Lukaku’s permanent signing.

Moreover, Lukaku’s recent performances in big games have been underwhelming, the player repeteadly failing to lead Mourinho’s side. According to the newspaper, this has also prompted Roma to reconsider Lukaku’s fit at the club.
