Roma officially unveiled 20 year-old defender Marash Kumbulla today to the media after the youngster completed his move last month to the Giallorossi from Hellas Verona.

The player was joined by Roma’s Chief Global Sporting Officer, Manolo Zubiria, who heaped praise on Kumbulla in his opening statement.

“Good day, everyone. We’re here to present Marash Kumbulla – even though he’s someone who needs no introduction,” began Zubiria.

“He played a great game on Sunday against Juventus and we’re proud and confident that he will have a good career. He was one of our objectives and we’re happy we were able to see it through”.

It was a great performance against Juventus: Roma’s defence is very young so is does this feel like a huge responsibility or is it more an added bit of motivation?

An added motivation, we’re young but we showed that we’re cohesive and focused. Since we’re young, we can all still improve although we shouldn’t forget there are some more experienced teammates here to help us too.

Pedro talked about the Champions League being the minimum objective.

Pedro is an international player with incredible experience, his words encourage us to do more to improve and finish as high as possible in the table.

How important would it be to have Smalling as a teammate?

His career is filled with victories and successes, but right now I’m only worried about the teammates I have here at this moment and improving our cohesiveness.

What did you think when you heard about the chance of joining Roma? You agent said this deal happened quickly.

I was very excited, it all happened very quickly. I didn’t hesitate obviously because of the club, the city, the supporters. It was an easy decision. Leaving Verona was difficult, but I had to take the next step.

How close were you to joining Lazio and how happy are you that you ultimately came to Roma?

There has been a lot of talk about me from several clubs. When Roma called me, I didn’t hesitate and I’m very happy to be here.

You’re right footed but you can play on the left side of a three-man defence. Is this your ideal role or do you prefer to play in the middle?

I don’t have a favorite role, I can play anywhere in defence. Wherever the coach puts me in the game, I can do it: on the right, in the middle or on the left of the three central defenders.

What do you think you need to improve?

In my opinion we must always improve and in everything. I definitely need to improve on my weak foot.

How did you feel about your debut?

I was very happy, playing against Juventus was exciting. But there is also a bit of regret, we weren’t able to get the three points — we deserved to win.
