Roma are eagerly looking for a way for Mats Hummels to join them in free agency.

The Giallorossi are currently the favorites to land the 35-year-old World Cup winner.

Hummels remains a concrete option to strengthen Roma’s defense next year, writes Il Messaggero.

Daniele De Rossi – completely immersed in the preparation work for next season at the “Fulvio Bernardini” Sports Center in Trigoria – would like the German central defender to be available as early as the start of preseason training set for early July.

As a result, in his talks with Hummels’ entourage, Roma technical director Florent Ghisolfi offered the player with a series of significant bonuses and the possibility of an automatic extension based on appearances in order to convince him to accept the Giallorossi proposal.

The salary would be around €3.5 million, the same as Chris Smalling’s wages.

However, the newspaper states that a deal for Hummels can only get done if Smalling finds a club willing to buy him in the coming weeks.

The Englishman has proposals from Saudi Arabia but is yet to decide on his future. Roma are waiting.
