Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi, who spent this season on loan at Empoli, will not be returning to his boyhood club AS Roma this summer.

Tuttomercatoweb has reported that the Giallorossi will not activate their option to repurchase the midfielder from the Neroverdi.

Frattesi joined Sassuolo from Roma in the summer of 2017 and has enjoyed a successful spell at Empoli this term. There were whispers that both the player and Roma wanted to reunite this summer, however, the capital club has opted not to activate the €15 million option that was originally inserted into the deal.

Frattesi is expected to return to Sassuolo and is expected to be given an opportunity by manager Roberto De Zerbi with the club.
