Roma working for Montiel, deal not done

John Solano

RomaPress – Barring a change of heart, Bryan Reynolds will not be joining Roma after having come to terms yesterday with Juventus.

The American had been in talks with Roma since late November, but the two sides were unable to reach an agreement to contractual terms. The club made renewed attempts over the last 48 hours when General Director, Tiago Pinto, contacted the representatives of Reynolds — but his attempts proved fruitless.

With the 19 year-old of FC Dallas seemingly no longer an option, the Giallorossi have turned their focus to another name on their list: Gonzalo Montiel of River Plate.

Former Roma Sporting Director, Gianluca Petrachi, came very close to signing the defender last May, however, the deal ultimately fell through after the 23 year-old opted to remain in Argentina.

Despite having said “No” to Roma eight months ago, Montiel still has the Giallorossi in his mind and is determined to join the capital club before his contract expires in June.

Tiago Pinto has been in contact with Montiel’s agent, Marcelo Carracedo, and Pablo Sabbag, who has been acting as an intermediary between the parties, throughout the last few days.

The parties are closing in on a deal after River Plate gave their “OK” for the negotiations to move forward. A definitive agreement hasn’t been reached, but the parties are getting closer.
