Roma’s appeal regarding the automatic defeat to Hellas Verona begins

The day has arrived for Roma’s appeal regarding their automatic 3-0 loss to Hellas Verona.

Despite that match on 19th September ended 0-0, Lega Serie A sporting judge Gerardo Mastrandrea awarded a victory to Verona. He ruled that Roma were guilty of fielding an ineligible player, which was the result of an administrative error.

Midfielder Amadou Diawara (23) was mistakenly added by club administrators to the Under-22 section of their official team sheet before the match. Because the ex-Napoli man participated in the fixture, he adjudged that Roma should be awarded an automatic 3-0 defeat.

After several months of delays, CONI’s (The Italian Olympic Committee) Collegio di Garanzia will hear the club’s appeal this afternoon. Roma CEO Guido Fienga arrived just before proceedings commenced at 15.00 local time. He was joined by the club’s lead attorney, Antonio Conte, who will argue that the mistake awarded Roma no sporting advantage.

Meanwhile, the two administrators that were responsible for the error, Gianluca Gombar and Pantaleo Longo, were also in attendance.
