Roma’s Chief Scout José Fontes could become new sporting director

Andy Mattioli

Roma are pondering the possibility of making their Chief Scout, José Fontes, their new sporting director.

As the club continue to search for Tiago Pinto’s replacement (the General Manager officially departed the club on 1 February of this year), Fontes has been steadily climbing in the list of candidates who could take over the much talked about vacancy at the club.

According to calciomercato.com, Fontes is now leading the race to become Roma’s new sporting director.

Behind him are the likes of Francois Modesto of Monza and Nicolas Burdisso of Fiorentina.

Fontes arrived in the capital in 2021, replacing Ricardo Formosinho, former collaborator of José Mourinho at Tottenham, on the staff. Fontes, as things currently stand, is in pole position for the role of sporting director of the Giallorossi.

The Portuguese scout previously worked for Leicester City.
