Roma defender Roger Ibanez will soon have to make a decision regarding his eligibility for international duty given his double citizenship status – the centre-back has both Brazilian and Italian passports and is yet to be called up for senior international duty in world competitions.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the 23-year-old is waiting for a call from both Tite – Brazil’s coach – and Italy’s Roberto Mancini. The latter was present at the Juventus Stadium on Saturday to monitor various candidates for the Italia national team including Ibanez.
The process which will allow Ibanez to be eligible for a call-up with Italy is expected to be completed in the coming weeks. In the meantime, Tite sent a team of scouts to Italy to evaluate his and Bremer’s performances in this year’s Serie A campaign.
