Tiago Pinto, the General Director of Roma, reacted to the Europa League draw today as the Giallorossi prepare to face Ajax.

The Portuguese executive labeled the draw against the Dutch giants as a “huge challenge” and praised them for their attractive playing style.

“I’m happy that we’re in the quarter-final of this important competition,” Pinto stated to Sky Sport.

”After two difficult games against Shakhtar, we now face an incredibly high level opponent in Ajax. This is a team that has a rich history in European football and, like Roma, were in a Champions League semifinal recently.”

”However, it will be an exciting challenge for us and we will try to keep moving forward, match by match. Every year they seem to reinvent themselves and continue to sign talented players, such as Antony, David Neres, and Dušan Tadić.”

He continued, “They have a very attractive style of football, which is ingrained in their history. This tie will undoubtedly be the most intriguing one in the quarter-finals. Both teams try to play an attractive and aggressive style of football. So it will be a huge challenge that we will obviously try to overcome.”

Pinto was also asked about Roma being the final remaining only Italian team left in European play.

“I think it would have been better for Italian football if other Italian teams also qualified,” he claimed.

”I hope we can do well to represent the team, the city and the country. We’ll try to earn as many points as possible for UEFA’s rankings.”

“My goal is to beat Ajax. It’s one game at a time — first in Amsterdam and then here in Rome.”
