RomaPress — With just six months remaining on his contract, Roma intend address the situation of fullback Leonardo Spinazzola during the January transfer window.
The Italian international originally joined the Giallorossi in 2019 and impressed in his early seasons with the club. His performances earned him a starting role for Italy in Euro 2020, where he was named to the Team of the Tournament. However, his tournament ended prematurely when he ruptured his Achilles in the Azzurri’s win over Belgium.
In the two-and-a-half years since the injury, Spinazzola hasn’t rediscovered his form and he’s been in and out of Jose Mourinho’s starting lineup. On top of his mediocre displays, the 30 year-old earns a whopping €3 million (net) per season—placing him among the team’s top ten highest wage-earners.
Roma haven’t shown any interest in offering him a new deal and they’re prepared to part ways next month. The Giallorossi obviously don’t want to lose him for nothing, but Spinazzola has voiced his preference of staying for the remainder of the season.
As a result, Roma general manager Tiago Pinto and Davide Lippi, Spinazzola’s agent, are scheduled to meet in the coming days and clarify potential options once the transfer window officially reopens on 1-January.
