Romelu Lukaku has reportedly reached out to Roma target Arthur Theate of Rennes.

The Belgian defender is said to be one of Roma’s main targets in this January window as the player is faced with limited minutes at Rennes and the capital club continue their search for defensive reinforcements.

After dismissing Leonardo Bonucci and with Tilo Kehrer nearing a move to AS Monaco, Roma have reportedly shifted their attention to Theate and Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma attacker and Belgium captain Romelu Lukaku has personally contacted Theate in the last few days to try and convince him to join Roma on loan in January.

For the moment, Rennes continue to insist on making any transfer for Theate permanent. Negotiations remain difficult.
