Salernitana manager Davide Nicola refused to criticise his team after they began their season with a home defeat to Roma.

The Salerno-based side lost 1-0 after Bryan Cristante buried a first-half goal from distance, unable to create any attacking threat against the capital club.

“Compared to our Coppa Italia loss to Parma, I’m satisfied with tonight,” Nicola told DAZN.

“We were much more compact tonight against an incredible team whose players have over 30 trophies to their names. I really liked the spirit we showed given this was the first league game, but we could’ve made better use of our counters.”

Adding, “Next we’ll hopefully have Bradaric and Radovanovic back with us. We always want to be aggressive with the way we play and not worry too much about aesthetics.”

“I think this team is aware of our capabilities and I hope to have everyone integrated as quickly as possible.”
