As Roma prepare to face Salzburg in the Europa League after the international break, the capital club are being linked with one of the Austrian side’s most intriguing players, namely Serbian defender Strahinja Pavlovic.

The 21-year-old centreback – who featured in Serbia’s defeat with Brazil in the World Cup on Thursday evening – is one of the most appealing names for Jose Mourinho’s backline, reports La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Currently, Pavlovic is a regular starter for both club and country with 11 appearances, one goal and one assist to his name in the Austrian Bundesliga and 6 appearances in this year’s Champions League edition.

Pavlovic would represent a top investment for Roma’s defense considering his current strengths and unlimited potential. The Italian newspaper cites him as the ideal long-term replacement for Chris Smalling.
