Pablo Betancourt, the agent of Samp midfielder Lucas Torreira, spoke to LaRoma24.it regarding the future of his client:
“So far, there have been no contacts with Roma. But in the newspapers I have read about interest from the Giallorossi. My client is a very versatile player, he has both quality and quantity. He’s good at playing in the two phases. He’s only 20 years old and in a team that plays good football and he can give a lot. His transfer in January is possible because we have not renewed with Sampdoria and the goal would be to go to another club. I can’t comment on a price as his current club will set that, but I know many foreign teams are interested.”
The words of his agent come on the heels of the Uruguayan, reportedly, being insulted by the wages offered by Samp for his renewal: the player currently earns €100,000 (net) and was offered €600,000 (net) on his new contract.
Angered by the words of the boy’s agent, Sampdoria released a statement today to calm the waters:
“Regarding the news published by the media, U.C. Sampdoria stresses that there is no issue or ‘if’ regarding Lucas Torreira: remember that the player has a contract expiring 30 June, 2020, Thanks to his growth and those who strongly believed in him, Torreira was offered a small wage adjustment in his contract. The relationship with the boy is excellent and marked by extreme fairness.”
