After having lost their first two matches of the season by a combined six goals, Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero is working desperately to land an important reinforcement in defence.
SportItalia reports that Roma’s Federico Fazio is likely to be the reinforcement that Sampdoria and manager Claudio Ranieri will welcome to Liguria.
Fazio has been heavily linked with an exit from the Italian capital throughout the summer as he drew interest from Cagliari, Fiorentina, and Genoa.
The Giallorossi have been desperate to offload Fazio, who arrived at the club in 2016, due to his large wages.
The departure of the Argentine should give Roma increased flexibility to bring Chris Smalling, their primary target this summer, back to the club.
