Massimo Ferrero, Sampdoria’s president, is one of the many colorful personalities that populate Serie A. He’s also a well known Romanista who often likes to push his own players in the direction of the capital.
Recently he spoke to Corriere dello Sport and shared his thoughts on Mikkel Damsgaard, Sampdoria’s winger who is coming off a brilliant Euro 2020 tournament with the Danish national team.
“Damsgaard is the player Roma need. If they call me up we can talk about it and find an agreement. He’s better than Xhaka.”
He added:
“Damsgaard is a quality player, he can even play in front of the defense. So let’s get together, all I’m waiting for is a phone call and we can find a solution. Xhaka’s not coming to Roma, so they’re still missing a player in the middle of the pitch.”
He concluded with:
“I want him to go to Roma. I am a Romanista and Damasgaard would be a great reinforcement.”
The asking price for the Danish international, however, is rather steep: €25 million.
Before bringing in new players, Roma are determined to make several sales – Pedro, Florenzi, Olsen and Santon are the ones closest to leaving the capital.
