After officially joining the club earlier this week, former Roma midfielder Gonzalo Villar is expected to make his Sampdoria debut this weekend against Atalanta.
The Genovese side host La Dea at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Saturday evening and the Spaniard is tipped to start as one of the three midfielders in Marco Giampaolo’s preferred 4-3-1-2 formation.
“We’ve added to important players to our midfield in Villar and (Filip) Duričić,” said Giampaolo during his pre-match press conference earlier today.
“Duričić is coming off a period where he’s been training by himself. But Villar’s done two training sessions with us so far after doing some general and physical tests to get an understanding of where he’s at.”
“However, these guys are two incredibly strong and important players that add quality to our team.”
Villar joined Samp on an initial loan deal but the club has the ability to make the move permanent for a fee of €8 million.
