Roma defender Davide Santon was present today at the Junior TIM Cup and spoke to present media members. These are his words:
A group of important matches are upcoming: Frosinone, Lazio and Porto. What are your and the group’s expectations?
It’s an important part of our schedule, we’re hoping for three victories but it will depend on us and how we prepare for these matches and how we step on to the pitch. Frosinone is not to be underestimated — we’re playing at their home so it will be tough. We have to bring home all three points, it’s mandatory.
Could Lazio resting ahead of their Coppa Italia match be an advantage for the Derby.
I don’t think so because if you train well and a team is fine physically — it doesn’t matter if you have a day or two off.
Your last start was against Juve in December before you ran into physical problems. Do you hope to start in one of these upcoming matches?
Yes, I hope so, I had a problem that kept me off a bit, now I’m back to training, I’m fine –the Mister is the one who decides and the important thing is to be ready when you’re called upon.
Do you think it’s the decisive moment of the season?
Certainly because we had so many ups and downs this year, we can’t get it wrong anymore. These are fundamental matches and we have to aim to win all of them because we can’t get it wrong.
You were in the dressing room with Zaniolo last year: was he a surprise for you?
I’ve known him for awhile, including when he was in Inter’s Primavera and he came to train with us a few times, but this guy has always been talked about. I was surprised because it’s not always easy to be ready for a young player and he’s proven to be more than ready and is making a difference, I’m happy for him and I hope he will continue like this.
