Marcos Leonardo is reportedly no longer close to joining Roma from Santos.

The 20-year-old has been Roma’s priority for the past few weeks as the capital club selected him as the ideal fit for Jose Mourinho’s attack.

Negotiations with Santos, however, proved more difficult than initially expected.

Following numerous meetings with the player’s entourage and several top intermediaries, Santos have raised their demands for Leonardo, reports La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Brazilian side are unwilling to let Leonardo leave this summer for less than €20 million with a fixed fee of €15 million and easily achievable bonuses.

So far, Roma have only managed to offer €20 million including add-ons. Talks are stalling and as a result the Giallorossi have turned their attention to other targets on the market.
