Sardar Azmoun’s national team of Iran have been eliminated from the Asian Cup following their 3-2 defeat to Qatar in the tournament’s semifinal.

The Roma attacker – on loan from Bayer Leverkusen – proved to be one of the key performers for Iran, scoring last night’s opening goal.

However, Azmoun’s efforts were not enough to guarantee his team’s progression to the Asian Cup final.

As a result, Il Tempo reports that Azmoun is shortly expected to be back in the Italian capital.

The player will travel to Italy within the next few hours. However, it remains to be seen whether he will be at Daniele De Rossi’s disposal on Saturday versus Inter Milan.
