Saudi Arabian clubs in pursuit of Chris Smalling

Andy Mattioli

Roma defender Chris Smalling is drawing interest from the Saudi Pro League.

The veteran centreback has been sidelined for the past two months with a chronic knee injury, unable to return to group training due to varying levels of pain.

According to La Repubblica, however, this has not prevented Saudi clubs from expressing their interest in him and making contact with the player’s entourage.

Smalling renewed his contract with the Giallorossi in the summer, but – the Italian newspaper claims – if his form does not improve within the coming weeks, Roma could decide to entertain potential offers as early as the upcoming January window.

The Englishman is currently in London for medical consultations with the objective of returning to Jose Mourinho’s disposal as soon as possible, but nonetheless his future remains uncertain.
