Newly signed midfielder Sergio Oliveira made his first appearance in front of the media earlier today and spoke about his first few days in the capital as well as his future ambitions at the club.

When asked about what he can bring to the team at his age, Oliveira replied:

“I am 29 years old, I have already proven my worth in football but I want to help Roma both on and off the pitch. Roma have great players with personalities, I feel like one more player able to help the team where is most needed.”

On whether he could become the new penalty-taker:

“I like to take set pieces very often, but this decision is up to Mourinho. Roma already have great players like Veretout and Pellegrini, taking the ball and kicking a penalty is a great responsibility.”

On the decision to join Roma:

“I am a footballer who likes challenges, I am grateful to Porto for making me grow. I had spent the past 5 years there, and after last season which was the best collectively and individually, I wanted a new challenge.”

“I’m not afraid of the loan formula. I want to demonstrate my strengths and stay here as long as possible.”

On his favorite position on the pitch:

“My favorite position is in a three-man midfield, as a number 8, or in a two-man midfield certainly a little further back. But I can play where the coach wants and I want to make my qualities available for the team.”

On playing Roma in a friendly earlier in the summer and his ambitions for the future:

“Friendlies are used to refine some things. The one between Roma and Porto was tougher than normal. I continued to follow Roma due to the presence of Mourinho.”

“After that game, I formed a relationship with Pellegrini. We need to have a winning mentality and have the ability to leave out external pressures. It is important to concentrate game after game.”

On his time at Trigoria so far:

“I was struck by the quality of the team, I was welcomed in the best possible way, perfect infrastructures, we work very well.”

“I was already following Roma from the outside, so a player already knows how to move on pitch. You have to work and get better on the pitch. As time goes by I am sure that I will find myself more and more at ease and things will follow their course.”
