The city of Rome is bracing itself as Roma and Lazio prepare to clash in the latest installment of the Derby della Capitale for round 31 in Serie A.

Set against the backdrop of the Stadio Olimpico, the Giallorossi and Biancocelesti are eager for not only bragging rights, but also a valuable result in their respective races to secure European football next season.

Furthermore, both Daniele De Rossi and Igor Tudor make their managerial Derby debuts following the midseason departures of Jose Mourinho and Maurizio Sarri.

Kick-off is scheduled for 18.00 CET at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

Roma

Aiming to end their six-year Champions League drought, Roma can’t afford to lose more ground to fourth-placed Bologna. Their quest to overcome the Rossoblu suffered a blow on Monday after they dropped two points in their 0-0 draw against Lecce—and with only eight rounds remaining in Serie A, time is quickly running out.

Luckily for Daniele De Rossi, he’ll have more options available for the game including captain Lorenzo Pellegrini, who returns from suspension. Furthermore, Paulo Dybala is set to return to the starting lineup after emerging from the shadows of injury. He’s expected to spearhead Roma’s attack alongside Romelu Lukaku and Stephan El Shaarawy.

The defensive line faces a shuffle as Evan Ndicka sits out due to a one-match suspension, opening the door for either Diego Llorente or Dean Huijsen to replace him. The only other question mark is at right back as De Rossi is tempted to utilise Zeki Celik over Rick Karsdorp.

Regardless of the selections, Roma will have to overcome their recent Derby woes—dropping three of their last four games against Lazio. In fact, the Giallorossi haven’t won a Derby della Capitale since March 2022.

Lazio

On the flip side, the Biancocelesti encounter their own set of challenges. After earning a late win over Juventus in Igor Tudor’s debut, Lazio underwhelmed in their midweek Coppa Italia rematch against the Bianconeri, losing 2-0 in Turin.

Tudor also faces a mounting injury list ahead of Saturday, with multiple first-choice options unavailable. Attacker Mattia Zaccagni is unavailable after exiting early from Tuesday’s Coppa Italia defeat to Juventus while fullback Manuel Lazzari also suffered an injury in the loss. Lazio will also be without goalkeeper Ivan Provedel, who is still nursing an ankle injury.

Meanwhile, midfielder Nicolo Rovella is back in training after missing the previous eight weeks of action. However, he’s still not match-fit and he’s unlikely to be called-up.
