Serie A official Daniele Chiffi spoke for the first time about his rapport with Jose Mourinho after the events of Monza-Roma.
The two got into a dispute, with the Special One calling Chiffi “the worst referee I’ve ever met” which resulted in Mourinho receiving a two-match ban to start the new season.
In an interview with Corriere dello Sport, Chiffi discussed this episode at length.
“He’s a great coach, his career speaks for him and it’s not up to me to judge him. On the field you can disagree, but if the referee realizes what’s going on, then the necessary punishment must be delivered. Being criticized is part of our job, that episode didn’t rob me of any sleep.”
“If that had happened ten years ago, I wouldn’t have had the experience to manage such a situation. Now I have this experience and I can’t let anyone influence me,” he added.
