Referee Marco Serra will face the Federal Court following the verdict by the prosecutor’s office for his dispute with Jose Mourinho in March.
Serra – who, as fourth official on that night, was caught taunting and insulting Roma manager Jose Mourinho during Cremonese-Roma – has been found guilty and condemned by the Federal Prosecutor, informs La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Prosecutor Giuseppe Chinè is cited to have in fact detected a behavior of “objectively inappropriate, abusive and even offensive nature of the words used”, such as to violate “the principles of loyalty, probity and correctness placed at the foundation of the sports system”, but also the specific rules of the AIA regulation which require their members to “base their behavior on strict compliance with the principles of loyalty, transparency and rectitude in defense of the credibility and image of AIA (Italian Referee Association.
Now the Federal Court will decide whether and how to sanction the referee who in the meantime has returned to officiating in Italy.
