Following the recent criticism of Serie A’s use of the VAR in Lecce-Monza and Juventus-Salernitana, the Lega is reportedly considering the introduction of a new tool to further improve the identification of offside positioning.
According to today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, a new method of semi-automatic offside check will be put in motion as soon as October.
This tool will also be present at this year’s World Cup in Qatar and is meant to increase the precision and reduce the time to assess an offside position: the waiting time before a final verdict is given will decrease from the current standards of 70 seconds to 25 seconds.
Lega representatives are expected to meet with AIA – the Italian referee association – to discuss the situation which has sparked much outcry and controversy in this new season.
