Sevilla midfielder Óliver Torres claimed winning the Europa League title on Wednesday against Roma would be an incredible feat for his side given how difficult the season has been.
The Spanish side experienced a very difficult league campaign, going through three managers in the process. Sitting in the relegation zone at one point, they finally found their footing in March after José Luis Mendilibar replaced Jorge Sampaoli.
“This year is special because it has been difficult, and we can’t forget that we went through some really bad moments,” he told the club’s website.
“Being able to make it to Budapest and claim another title is something special. It’s going to be a unique final and I hope we are all able to smile together.”
He added, “There were many difficult moments. It’s a day when we will all be in a circle together, look at each other and know what we need to do. The reality is that we will not all be here next year, that’s football, there are changes.”
“We must be proud of the journey we have gone on and getting to Wednesday. Claiming this trophy after the year we have had, would be something marvellous and unrivalled, and would be among the best days of my life. I have to be thankful that I have these moments in my life.”
