Shakhtar Donetsk manager Paulo Fonseca spoke about the upcoming Champions League match against Roma during his press conference ahead of his side’s clash against Chornomorets. These are his words:
Tell us about the personnel situation and Shakhtar’s readiness for this year’s first competitive game against Chornomorets.
We are fully ready after the winter break. The training camp was held in excellent conditions, the guys are in great form. I think we will play decently and prove ourselves in the league season’s final part.
In the closing training camp friendly, you were dissatisfied with the team’s dedication. Has the situation changed after returning to Ukraine?
Yes. Sometimes you need to remind the players about something and point out the mistakes. I really was dissatisfied with our last match to differ from the previous ones, even despite the fact that we hadn’t won them. The players understood everything perfectly well, being ready to continue the league season now.
How important is the encounter with Chornomorets ahead of the meeting with Roma?
To be honest, we are trying not to think about the Champions League so far. I want to remind you that our major goal is the Ukrainian championship. We will move step by step. At the moment, we are getting ready for the crucial clash with Chornomorets, and after that we will start analysing Roma’s performance and prepare to play them.
