Smalling bids farewell to Roma: “I’m gutted that I can’t finish what we started this season“.

John Solano

Chris Smalling took to his Twitter account to bid farewell to Roma as his loan deal officially expired with the Giallorossi yesterday.

The Englishman became arguably one of the most important players for Paulo Fonseca this season and had little trouble in adapting to a new league and country.

Roma and Manchester United remain engaged in negotiations for Smalling — however, the player has now returned to England following his loan spell.

”I’m gutted that I can’t finish what we started this season. To experience the love shown to me in such a short time was extra special and it will not be forgotten,” said the defender.

“I want to thank and wish all the players and staff the best of luck against Sevilla. Daje Roma”!

The Giallorossi will continue talks with the Red Devils as Paulo Fonseca has made it clear to the club that he wants Smalling at his disposal.
