Smalling edges closer to a new long-term deal with Roma

English defender Chris Smalling is reportedly edging closer to a highly anticipated extension with the Giallorossi.

As declared by the player himself before the return leg with Salzburg, the veteran centreback wants to extend his stay in the capital beyond next season.

His agent, James Featherstone, is at work to secure a new long-term deal of at least two years with Roma, reports Corriere dello Sport.

According to the Italian newspaper, despite negotiations taking longer than expected, there is growing optimism for an agreement to be reached.
