Smalling, El Shaarawy, Kumbulla, and Spinazzola return to full group training

Chris Smalling Trains with Roma

Less than one week ahead of their vital Europa League showdown against Manchester United, Roma were handed a major boost today on the injury front.

Defending trio Chris Smalling, Marash Kumbulla, and Leonardo Spinazzola returned to full training with the group after recovering from their respective injuries. The Englishman has missed the majority of the past three months due to a lingering calf injury, while Kumbulla has dealt with a partially torn meniscus. Spinazzola, meanwhile, recovered from a thigh strain, which he suffered during Roma’s win in Amsterdam over Ajax.

Manager Paulo Fonseca also welcomed back attacker Stephan El Shaarawy. The Italian was also hampered by a thigh strain and was absent for the previous two weeks.

The quartet’s return couldn’t have come at a better time. The capital side face Cagliari on Sunday before traveling to England for Thursday’s Europa League semi-final against the Red Devils.
