Smalling frustrated with loss to Bologna

Andy Mattioli
Roma defender Chris Smalling

Roma defender Chris Smalling was interviewed by the club’s official channels following the Giallorossi’s defeat at Stadio Dall’Ara.

“It’s a defeat that makes everything even more frustrating. We needed today’s 3 points, we wanted to close the gap with the teams in front of us.”

“I don’t remember a clear opportunity for them, it was a moment when we were dominating the match, they didn’t have many chances. Yes, we didn’t create many chances either but even more frustrating to lose the match when they literally had only one chance.”

“With the new formation we grant fewer chances and so there is also the help of the forwards, with Abraham and Zaniolo pressing high.”

“We played against a good team who are in a good moment, but if you want to get to the top you have to find a way to win, we had to find a way to do it and unfortunately it didn’t happen today.”

When asked about his recovery, the English centre-back concluded:

“Now I feel good, it has been a difficult start to the season and I hope that now I can have a good series of matches and help the team because I have missed a lot of matches in the last year and it was frustrating to see my teammates fighting on the pitch.”

“I hope to stay in shape and help my team as much as possible “
