Smalling injured again: likely to miss up to three weeks

Roma defender Chris Smalling has suffered another injury setback and is expected to miss a crucial stretch of the Giallorossi’s upcoming schedule.

The Englishman tweaked a muscle in his thigh in the dying stages of Sunday’s victory against Empoli and was seen wincing in pain when he left the stadium.

Scans today revealed that the veteran suffered a strained hamstring and will be unavailable for at least the next three weeks, ruling him out for next weekend’s showdown in Turin against Juventus.

He also risks the possibility of missing out on subsequent league clashes against Napoli, Cagliari, and Milan.

The club’s medical staff will evaluate him over the coming days, but they’re likely to take a very conservative approach given his extensive injury history.

It marks the tenth muscle-related injury sustained by Smalling since his arrival in the Italian capital in 2019.
