Smalling, Mkhitaryan to miss Parma match

Roma defender Chris Smalling is set to be held out of this weekend’s league fixture against Parma.

Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that the Englishman experienced some discomfort in his left thigh during training today. Smalling returned from injury less than one week ago after missing more than one month of action.

Scans didn’t reveal any structural damage, however, manager Paulo Fonseca has decided not to call him on Sunday as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, attacker Henrikh Mkhitaryan underwent therapy today following the muscle injury that he suffered yesterday against Shakhtar Donetsk. The Armenian felt discomfort in his right calf in the first half and was replaced by Borja Mayoral.

He will undergo additional tests and scans tomorrow to understand how long he may miss.
