Smalling nearing Roma return, Fazio close to Cagliari

Roma continue to work on both incoming and outgoing operations as they look to reshape their team for manager Paulo Fonseca.

Sky Sport reports that the Giallorossi and Chris Smalling have reached an agreement to personal terms on a contract after initially running into problems in the negotiations.

Smalling’s contract with Manchester United will expire in 2022 and there is optimism that a deal will be reached between the two clubs soon as the English defender is close to returning the the Eternal City.

Meanwhile, fellow central defender Federico Fazio is close to finalising a move to Cagliari for a fee of €2.5 million plus €500,000 in bonuses.

The Argentine defender gave his “OK” for the transfer to the Sardinian club, who are managed by former Roma boss Eusebio Di Francesco. The deal is at an advanced stage and only a few details are missing between the clubs.
