Smalling to undergo tests: mild optimism for Atalanta

Chris Smalling asked for a substitution in the second half to Roma’s 2-0 win over Spezia. The English centre-back’s recent performances since his return from injury proved crucial for Mourinho’s backline.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the club seem to have excluded any serious injury to the thigh muscle that caused Smalling some discomfort on Monday night.

Today the player is expected to undergo further tests to assess any damage to the muscle. However, there is growing optimism that the defender could be called up for the crucial showdown vs Atalanta.
