Smalling unlikely to take part in Sassuolo clash

After making his permanent return to Roma in early October from Manchester United, Chris Smalling has had difficulties getting on to the pitch.

The Englishman has been suffering from lingering pain in his left knee and last appeared for the Giallorossi in their win on 8 November against Genoa.

Smalling has been limited him to only four appearances this season and is unlikely to take part in Sunday’s highly anticipated league fixture against Roberto De Zerbi’s Sassuolo.

The defender was limited to individual work during today’s training session — a sign that it’s a difficult race against time in order for him to be ready for the clash against the Neroverdi.

it’s possible that manager Paulo Fonseca decides to call him up for the match, but the odds that he steps foot on the pitch are very small.
