Smalling’s future at Roma dependent on season finale

Andy Mattioli

Chris Smalling is being increasingly linked with a summer exit from the capital club.

The English defender has been sidelined due to injuries for the majority of this season. After having recovered from a chronic knee injury, Smalling hurt his ankle and – as a result – has been missing for the past few weeks.

According to Corriere della Sera, Smalling’s physical inconsistencies have made the club reconsider his position in the team and the club’s future.

The newspaper argues that Smalling will have to fight for a place in the team in these final weeks of the season. A lot will depend on whether the veteran will be able to recover and convince the club to continue relying on him.

Otherwise, Smalling could be sold: Inter Milan and clubs from the Saudi Pro League have already inquired about him.
