Daniele De Rossi’s SPAL fall to Genoa in a 1-0 defeat and, as a result, the Roman legend will not face his former side in the next round of the national tournament.
De Rossi addressed the missed chance of going to Rome to face Mourinho’s men in his post-match press conference.
“I saw my players give everything tonight, not just today but from the first training session under my supervision. There are many things to fix, but from a human and professional point of view they give me hope.”
“I’m sorry we lost, but the match against Roma was more of a thing for you [the media] to cherish,” he said.
“We have other very clear objectives, such as our league campaign on Sunday. There’s still time for me to return to Rome as manager on one bench or the other.”
