Roma manager Luciano Spalletti and defender Federico Fazio spoke today ahead of tomorrow’s Europa League clash against Viktoria Plzen:
Will tomorrow be the opportunity to see those who have played less?
This year, we have more than 11 potential starters, the team has been set up to be able to change some elements without ever wearing out the same players. Of course tomorrow is, but the key thing is to continue to play good football and try to win matches.
How important is the Europa League in Roma’s season?
The Champions League is the most prestigious competition there is, and now we must be reminded of what we lost. The Europa League becomes beautiful if we can advance and if we reach the final stages it will become a beautiful competition.
You won the Europa League three times, which features do you need to win it?
It’s a very important competition, the winner qualifies for the Champions League next season, for this reason, you must do well. We have to have a good start tomorrow in the first match, playing a full 90 minutes. We have so many matches during this stretch, it is important to do well.
How are you physically? Are you satisfied with your time so far at Roma?
I’m fine, these are only my first few months in Italy. I feel good in Rome, we have a competitive team and I get on well with my teammates. I’m trying to force myself to speak Italian.
Roma have suffered a lot in defence.
It doesn’t only depend on the defence, we have to work as a team in all departments. There Re 11 in the pitch, tomorrow we have to begin with three points and start strong.
What did the Mister ask of you?
We must win this competition.
