Spalletti speaks ahead of Samp clash

Roma manager Luciano Spalletti spoke today ahead of tomorrow’s match against Samp, here is an excerpt of his words:

“For injuries, Florenzi will start training with the Primavera next week. Everyone else is available.”

“The dangers of Samp? I can only speak well of Giampaolo because I have known him for a long time. Giampaolo gave continuity to Empoli after Sarri and has shaped Sampdoria, winning the esteem of his players. Samp is a trap. We won two matches but with them came great difficulty. For us it is a particulr moment, we can’t drop points but we have a tough opponent in front of us.”

“A mental block against teams like Samp? I believe that there is a common thread that is equal for all clubs: professionalism, we have to be to execute and work well and take advantage of this moment.”

“An error not to switch to a back three sooner? If the sum of the errors means being where we are now (in the table) then I can accept that. There are times where you do not have certain players available, and where you are not aware of some things. We could return to a back four, especially with the full squad. The essential thing is that the team has balance. Now we will continue like this because we find satisfaction in not conceding goals.”

“Paredes? I did not ask for his sale. You’d have to ask the player or the club for an analysis of the market.”

“Grenier? He has had a step back in his career, but Roma can help overcome this setback and he can do like Fazio has done. Do I like Kessie? You don’t say? I like him a lot.”

“If Roma need to sell in order to satisfy Financial Fair Play then that must be taken into account. I have good players who are brave. There has been talk of Defrel, a player I like. I like having the ability to choose. El Shaarawy does not feel that I trust him but I have to make a choice of balances, Totti has played little, but the team is working and Salah is returning. We sold Iturbe and lost Salah for a short time so we needed an attacker 4-5 matches ago.”
