Leonardo Spinazzola’s latest injury may be prove decisive in determining his future.

The player is set to become a free agent in a few weeks after spending the last five years in the Italian capital.

With Daniele De Rossi’s appointment, Spinazzola was utilized extensively and produced some of his best performances of the season, totaling a combined 17 appearances across all competitions in the second half of the season.

Due to his positive relationship with De Rossi, Spinazzola was even linked with a potential new deal with Roma – the two sides were contemplating a new contract on lower wages.

However, the fullback’s latest injury to his right thigh flexor muscle – which he sustained during the return leg against Bayer Leverkusen – is bound to put a stop to such considerations, reports Il Tempo.

Spinazzola remains out for the remainder of the season and Roma will now have to study whether to invest in a new replacement ahead of the summer.
