Stephan El Shaarawy agrees to secondary role with Mourinho

Andy Mattioli

Stephan El Shaarawy is set to stay in the Italian capital after initial rumors claimed the Italian winger might leave Roma in this transfer window. The player, however, will remain at the club until the expiry of his contract next year and thus leave as a free agent in the summer of 2023.

The 29-year-old has discussed with Mourinho the decision to stay and contribute off the bench, reports Corriere dello Sport. The player’s team attitude is very much appreciated by the Special One and considered a vital addition for the new season as Roma will be in need of attacking options off the bench with the imminent arrival of Andrea Belotti.

El Shaarawy has already spoken with Tiago Pinto and reassured him his willingness to remain in the capital until the end of his contract.
